The story behind this commission starts like this: In a world were only Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are alicorns and each species has their own schools that at the same time are permitted to interact each other, Spike meets Rarity once she goes as a guest in his school and fells in love with her. However, older students such as Garble and his gang mocks Spike for falling in love with a pony until Rarity's coltfriend, Prince Blueblood, makes an insulting commentary that he agrees with Garble since dragons are ugly and dumb creatures (with the exception of Spike who at least has manners for a male kid dragon and the female dragons, since Prince Blueblood sees any female as beauties, but none can be compared in maximum beautiness as his Rarity). Garble reacts pretty bad with his commentary, so he decides to make a bet with his gang to make Spike win Rarity's heart (losing side pays amounts of gemstones and dragon drinks to the winner side for a whole year), but since Garble has little manners with females, he asks for help to Twilight Sparkle and Ember, since both are Rarity's friends, and Thorax, Spike's friend and exchange student in the dragon school.

Spike is in 7th grade, but got a year earlier for his age because of his intelligence (he is 12 years old). He often goes to school with his phoenix pet Peewee, a gift from her foster mother Princess Celestia. Until the beggining of the story he was under tutelage of his foster aunt Princess Luna until she suggest him to end his studies in the dragon school, which he adapted quickly. He is a bujinkan student (a.k.a. ninja) and is considered from his classmates a skillfull and dangerous dragon because of that. He has a little brother relationship with Twilight Sparkle, since she used to babysit him until he was 12.

Ember is in 11th grade (she is 17 years old). She gets along pretty well with Spike and hangs a lot with her female dragon friends and Twilight Sparkle and Rarity, her only two pony friends. She is a Judo student, in Second Dan grade, but also knows some other martial arts since his father, Dragon Lord Torch, trains her to give her eventually the knowledge of the ancient martial arts of their family passed by generations after generations. She sometimes regards Spike as a little brother for everytime she gives him advice to act more like a dragon without losing his unique personality.

Garble is in 12th grade (he is 18 years old) but is a troublemaker student and leader of a gang. He's more like a guy who wants to look tough and cool rather than a bully and thinks that Spike falling in love with a pony only damages his reputation so he thinks he's giving him a favor... Until Prince Blueblood mocks him and the dragon race. He wields a bokken to look threatening but knows little to fight with it because he barely goes to Kendo class after feeling dissapointed that it requires more discipline rather than fighting with strength (Ember is aware of that, which is the main reason she's capable to disharm him with her Judo skills).

Prince Blueblood is in the same grade and age as Garble, but unlike him, he's an excellent fencing combatant who has won many tournaments and fights out of school (only when he gets assaulted by other gangs). He's a gentlemen to any female race and has many followers as well. He's Rarity's coltfriend only because of her beauty, which gives Rarity doubts about their relationship. He mocks male dragons just as Garble mocks ponies, which makes them both as rivals. However, he sees Spike as a decent dragon but since he's a kid, he doesn't see him as a threat to steal his Rarity (at first).

Rarity is in the same grade and age as Ember, Twilight Sparkle and Thorax. She's considered as the most beautiful mare in school, explaining why she's Prince Blueblood's marefriend, the most handsome stallion in school. But as weeks pass, she starts to feel doubts since his coltfriend treats her like a trophy in front on his friends rather as herself, a mare with exquisite tastes for fashion but with a generous heart. She attends as a guest student in the Aikido class from the dragon school thanks to her friend Ember, since she feels that a lady must know how to defend herself in combat, explaining how Spike meets her and fells in love with her.

Twilight in the same grade and age as Ember, Rarity and Thorax. She's the most intelligent student in her generation and gets the highest grades. She's more inclined to learn things from her school but she likes to know from the dragon school the tea ceremony and their calligraphy. She has a big sister relationship with Spike, since she used to babysit Spike until he was 12. She's Princess Celestia's most promising disciple because of her talent with magic.

Thorax is in the same grade and age as Ember, Twilight Sparkle and Rarity. He's friends with Spike, explaining why he goes as an exchange student in the dragon school. He's also friends with Twilight Sparkle and Rarity from the pony school and during his exchange stay he gets along pretty well with Ember. He can shapeshift into other races but with the same gender (male in his case), but he is not allowed to do that for scholar reasons. He's very interested in Karate, which he attends and learns quickly (he got purple belt in a short period of time, at the begging of this story).

This is a school story which involves romance, comedy and drama.
